Barwon HealthLocated in Ryrie Street, The Geelong Hospital is the largest component of Barwon Health with 400 beds and an annual budget of $210 million. It is the oldest health organisation in the region, dating back to 1852, and the second oldest in Victoria.

During the previous year, the hospital treated approximately 40,000 inpatients, performed approximately 16,000 operations and had about 40,000 accident and emergency attendances.

The Geelong Hospital serves a population of 220,000 for acute health care and a community of up to 450,000 in the Barwon South-Western region for a number of specialist services, including cardiac surgery, radiation oncology, pathology and palliative care. Medical, surgical and specialist services offered are among the most comprehensive of any hospital in the state.

The Geelong Hospital is one of Victoria's major teaching hospitals (University of Melbourne) and maintains close links with other teaching hospitals, including St Vincent's and the Royal Children's Hospital. It has a reputation for innovation in research, clinical trials and excellence in patient care.

Central Gippsland Health Service (Sale Hospital)

Central GippslandThe Sale campus of Central Gippsland Health Service has 56 acute beds incorporating a 25 bed medical ward and 6 beds mixed ICU/CCU. The Sale campus treats about 10,000 inpatients annually including and delivers more than 400 babies. There are presently 3 general physicians with subspecialty interests that encompass cardiology, respiratory medicine, oncology, geriatrics and infectious diseases. A gastroenterologist is being recruited. The resident surgeons undertake a broad range of surgery including major bowel and breast surgery and are supported by the intensive care unit.  CGHS is affiliated with Monash University and there is a modern library offering librarian support.

St Vincent's Health

St VincentsSt. Vincent's Health is an 843-bed health service. It provides acute medical and surgical services, aged care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, allied health, mental health, palliative care and residential care and a range of community and outreach services.

St Vincent's Hospital is a major teaching, research and tertiary referral centre situated on the fringe of Melbourne's central business district. A feature of the campus is the in-patient building, a $160 million facility that was opened in 1995. In-patient and ambulatory care is provided in a range of medical and surgical specialties, supported by allied health services.

St. Vincent's aims for excellence in: patient care, teaching, training and research. Education is one of the three core businesses of St. Vincent's Health, along with patient care and research. Most senior staff plays an active role in teaching and training. A number of our senior staff holds professorial appointments with the University of Melbourne.

St Vincent's Health offers a strong record of commitment to clinical training and leadership in the setting of the highest quality educational facilities centred in the newly re-developed education centre. This centre is the home of the SVH Human Simulation Centre, which is available for use for postgraduate training.

Research plays a vital role throughout St. Vincent's Health, and the organisation supports many innovative projects and trials. The St. Vincent's Institute of Medical Research focuses on research in bone cell biology, cancer and heart disease. South West Healthcare (Warrnambool Base Hospital)

WarnamboolSouth West Healthcare (Warrnambool Campus) is a modern, well-equipped 207 bed general hospital servicing a catchment area of approximately 110,000. A wide range of services, including acute, rehabilitation, and aged care together with an extensive range of primary and community health services are provided.

South West Healthcare treats in excess of 12,000 inpatients, and 22,000 Emergency Department presentations per annum, and is a designated regional trauma centre. Within South West Healthcare there are two General Medical Units. The trainee positions are intended to provide responsibility and a broad range of medical experience whilst working as part of an overall medical team. They will liaise closely with the local Physicians and are expected to participate in the training program provided. Physician ward rounds occur daily, and consultant support is readily available when required. Clinical teaching is supported by a well-resourced library available twenty-four hours a day, Internet access and weekly Division of Medicine Clinical meetings. The RACP Education program is also available via videoconference.

Werribee Mercy Hospital

Werribee Mercy HospitalWerribee Mercy Hospital is a general community hospital of 189 beds located in a tertiary research precinct in Melbourne's western growth corridor, 15 minutes' drive from the Westgate Bridge. It is a public hospital campus of the Mercy Health and Aged Care Group.

There are large Obstetric, Palliative Care and Psychiatric inpatient units; two general medical wards and one general surgical ward. Ambulatory day-procedure facilities providing chemotherapy, renal dialysis and other parenteral therapy are available, as well as supported 'Hospital In The Home' management and allied health services. The 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department has recently been rebuilt, and ongoing expansion of the Hospital's infrastructure and clinical services is anticipated. Medical training on site involves teaching ward rounds, fortnightly formal lunchtime presentations and teleconferencing facilities.

Western District Health Service (Hamilton Base Hospital)

Hamilton BaseWestern District Health Service (Hamilton Base Hospital) is a referral centre primarily servicing the Southern Grampians/Glenelg Shires with 75 acute patient beds. The full time clinical physician expertise consists of 4 general physicians and an anaesthetist. The Hamilton Medical Group with 14 General Practitioners have visiting rights to the Hospital. There are visiting specialists in the fields of Endocrinology, Oncology, Neurology, Radiation Oncology, and Dermatology. There is also a visiting Radiology Service from Bendigo Radiology with a tele-radiology machine available.

The state-of-the-art Education Centre offers a suite of venues catering for a range of purposes including lectures, presentations, meetings and conferences. The Corporate boardroom is a purpose-built room with facility to accommodate 14 people. The boardroom has videoconference facilities and a digital whiteboard. Our computer training room is equipped with 6 PCs and is fully networked with data projector, whiteboard, printer and Internet access.
